After 10 years of waiting for payday 3, heisters were excited and ready to hop on into the new installment in the payday series. In the world of gaming, few titles have captured the essence of cooperative heist action quite like the PAYDAY series. Over the years, fans have eagerly awaited for payday 3, hungry for more adrenaline-pumping robberies and intense shootouts.
However, despite its promising beginnings, it’s evident that something has gone awry with PAYDAY 3, leading to its untimely demise and a significant decline in its online player base. What was once a highly a highly anticipated game, has now lost so many players such that it has less than 500 daily players on steam and keep it mind that the game has only been out for 6 months.
So, what exactly went wrong with PAYDAY 3, and why has it failed to maintain the momentum of its predecessors? Let’s delve into some key factors contributing to its downfall.
What exactly is wrong with PAYDAY 3?
Poor Development issues:
Well it’s been 6 months and nothing has really changed about the game. Things like delays in providing updates for the game from the developers have left fans frustrated. As the months after release went by with little to no substantial updates, anticipation turned into disappointment, driving many players away. Most players have returned to PAYDAY 2 or have completely left to play other games. Players are unable to upgrade their payday 3 base game to the Silver or Gold editions, and this in itself just sucks.
Poor quality upgrades
The 1st update which had incredibly hefty delays, mostly focused on fixing bugs and the 2nd update that came out two months after the game released, this was the legacy heist update. The Legacy Heist update proclaimed to be one of the biggest updates ever. However, besides the content additions, which consisted of two old Payday 2 heists and the Transporter skill tree, again the only real notable changes were adding small xp rewards for completing heist as a fix for the awful challenge system.
Fans do not agree with this one bit, fans have been demanding for some innovation and addition of high quality content. Some heisters have even stated that the game does not even feel like payday, it feels very generic.
High game prices
The difference in the value that the player gets out of the payday 3 compared to what payday 2 delivered is really huge and you can see why players are still going back to play payday 2. With recent sale discounts on payday 3, one would think the game would have more players, but that is not the reality. It also looks like the developers focused on making as much money as possible from the large vibrant and loyal payday 2 community that would definitely hop onto payday 3 once it released.
Lack of great game progression:
While the core gameplay mechanics of the PAYDAY series are undeniably thrilling, there comes a point where repetition starts to breed boredom. Unfortunately, PAYDAY 3 failed to bring enough innovation to the table to keep things fresh. Without meaningful updates or exciting new features, players quickly grew tired of the same old heists and scenarios, seeking greener pastures elsewhere.
Gaming Community Neglect:
A vibrant and engaged community is often the lifeblood of any multiplayer game. However, the developers of PAYDAY 3 seemingly neglected this crucial aspect, failing to foster a strong sense of community or address the concerns of their player base. As a result, disillusioned fans began drifting away, leaving behind a shell of the once-thriving community.
Early Technical Issues:
No game is immune to technical issues, but persistent bugs, glitches, and server problems can quickly sour the player experience. Unfortunately, PAYDAY 3 was plagued by numerous technical issues, further driving players away as frustration mounted.
Can PAYDAY 3 make it right and make a comeback?
At the moment it is very hard for one to imagine that payday 3 can make a swift change of direction into the right path. Whether the game can do it right fully depends on the priorities of the company and the developers. recently they fired their CEO, and this is mainly due to the failure of payday 3.
The direction in which the game will go in from now is still yet to be determined, and they may start fixing some of the real big problems with the game. One thing that I can guarantee you is that it is going to be long and hard before things get even a little bit better for the game.
Because of our love for the heist games, we still wish to get a better payday 3 video game. Although payday 2 still has over 20k daily players, they would move on if a high quality payday game is available.
